Following the fall of Miss Truthdale and Hyperborea in the hit 2023 series, legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignora and artist Jesse Ronergan (Best of the Man) are working together again in the next chapter of the saga. This fourth-issue miniseries written by Mignola features art and colours by Ronergan and letters by Clem Robbins, but also features main and variant covers by Ronergan.
“Since putting together the BPRD series, I’ve become more and more interested in exploring the origins of Hellboy’s universe,” said Mignora. “I don’t dream of telling the rise of humans without Jesse Ronergan’s incredible storytelling ability. The story has driven me wild. Jesse has made me even more surreal and wonderful than I had imagined.
Readers were first introduced to Miss Truthdale in Victorian England, where she unveiled her mysterious connection to the ancient warrior Anum Yassa. The journey threw her into her past life and confronted primitive evil. In the rise of man, Anum Yassa is now walking around the forest and making clear about her many lives.
“In the fall of Hyperborea, I explored the reincarnation link between a Victorian woman and her ancient gladiator self,” explained Ronergan. “Now, with the rise of humans, these two identities are fused together. Miss Truthdale exists in Anum Yassa’s powerful body, travels through strange new worlds and battles against the terrifying creatures.
The 22-page rise of Miss Truthdale and Mann #1 is scheduled to be released by Dark Horse on December 10th, 2025.
