Mad Cave Studios’ young adult label Maverick has released a new graphic novel about two high school friends. The Beat has all the details. Debuting in May 2025, Sara and Dara follows the pair during their explosive senior year at a prestigious high school, where Dara’s quest for revenge potentially destroys Sara’s life.
Sarah and Darla is written by David Pinckney, illustrated by Pia Prado, and lettered by Dave Sharp. Here’s the full synopsis:
Scandal and heartache befall the prestigious Panorama High School, where only the best of the best attend. The senior year is about to begin, and as the graduates begin to move towards their futures, some attend college and others focus on new careers, one girl (Dara)… He will set his sights on a particular girl (Sarah) and stir the cauldron, stirring up potential scandal. .
Dara, the exiled daughter of Thomas Benson, the butler of the Havemeyer family, returns for the first time in five years to take revenge on Sarah Havemeyer, the girl who “destroyed” her life when she was 12 years old. Thanks to Sarah’s information, Dara’s parents exile her and she goes to live with her lifeless grandmother in Alaska. Now that his grandmother has passed away, Thomas begs his boss (Donatella Havenmeyer) to allow Dara to live with him in the mansion and attend the upper grades of the same school that Sarah and her brother attend. Darla is back, and although she gets along with everyone and has seemingly let bygones be bygones, she wants to knock Sara off her social pedestal and destroy her in her place.

“It was difficult to bring Sarah and Dara together,” Pinckney said in the announcement. “We wanted to tell stories with relatable themes that aren’t often touched on in all-ages media, and present them in a unique way that was engaging and relatable. We worked closely with our editors to By expressing how we wanted to convey the message and combining it with art and text that beautifully complemented the story, I believe we were able to create something that truly resonated positively with readers.”
Editor Mara Ezik says: I think I was certainly transported back to my high school days while reading this story. Sarah and Dara have a complicated friendship, but what I love about them is that even though they’re both distracted by their high school rivalries and class differences, they’re always trying to find their own way instead of following the crowd. It’s about getting back to trusting your instincts and perspective. . That’s the lesson I hope young readers take away from this beautiful book. ”
Alison Pond, director of marketing for Mad Cave Studios, said: “Sarah and Dara is a one-shot film that goes beyond the typical high school rivalry and delves into themes of betrayal, redemption, and the transformative power of trust. We will deliver eight dramas.” “The title captures the intense core moments and emotions that are not always emphasized but are a big part of growing up, and the complexity of forgiveness and what it takes to rebuild broken relationships. We are excited to bring this story to life, as we believe it will leave a lasting impression on readers.”
