Perhaps one of the biggest and unexpected news for Comicspro ’25 was the announcement of the release of a new Batman ongoing series from the creative team of writer Matt Fraction and artist Jorge Jiménez. The percentage is probably best known for his work in a series owned by Marvel and his creators, but he is familiar with the DC comics that wrote the beloved Superman companion Jimmy Olsen series in 2019. There is none. Quite a long time.

In an official statement, Fraction described what attracted him to tackle a new Batman ongoing book, and explained what fans could expect from the take of the Crusades he wore a hat.

“Without Batman, I wouldn’t be here. That was the first manga I’d ever read,” Fraction said. “Jorge and I have something very similar to a superhero against Batman. We have a new Batmobile, we have a new costume, we have a new character, And we also have a lot of old characters – good and bad. Everything that makes Batman the coolest character in the comics. We want to celebrate it all.”

Meanwhile, Jimenez has a strong relationship with Batman, who has been involved in the creative execution of former writers Chip Zudarski and James Tinion IV. The artist revealed how his style differed from his previous creative bun:

“As a DC artist, this is something I’ve always dreamed of, and it’s incredible for me to do it with someone as amazingly talented as Matt,” Jimenez said. “As for my work with Batman, the artistic side, I’ve put years of hard work into this series. Over time, I adapted to a variety of styles and paces alongside James and Chip, and at every stage of the day. I learned and enjoyed myself. I explored Gotham City from multiple angles, but more importantly, I gradually built more and more artistic tools that led me to the current integration of my style. ”

The new Batman #1 marks only the fourth name change of the book.

DC’s new Batman #1 just renames the fourth in DC’s Batman comic book series in the 84-year history of the title.

The creative team also includes colorist Tomeu Molly and letter Clayton Cowles. As fans can tell from the art revealed, Batman is wearing a new blue and grey outfit. Plus, readers can expect a new Batmobile and a new look in Gotham City.

Regarding the new suit, Jimenez revealed:

“In this new chapter, we created an improved aesthetic and brought back Batman’s blue suit in a definitive way,” Jimenez said. “This is a small shift intended to feel both classic and fresh, and while still faithful to the original designs I’ve been using in recent years, I’ve also evolved subtly. At the same time, I’m a visual for Gotham City. He is committed to his traits of identity, giving him a fresh approach that sets him apart from his previous take. I aim for a slight pop influence, which maintains the dark, ominous sense of modern Batman. But it gives a subtle nod to the classic story.

Added fractions:

“Part of the reason Batman lasted and resonated as loudly as he has is that he is incredibly resilient,” Fraction said. “He can be all kinds of things for all different people, whether it’s cartoon, animation or film.”

In terms of direction, the publisher revealed that the creative team “when they start running in September, they will tell a series of connections but self-contained stories.” All the issues may be new adventures, new styles, and new challenges for creative teams to place in front of Batman. ”

Details on Batman #1 in September will be revealed soon.
