At New York Comic Con on Saturday, DC Comics revealed some big news for Batwoman. Her creator, screenwriter Greg Rucka, will return to the Batwoman title in 2026, along with artist Dani and colorist Matt Hollingsworth.
The new Batwoman is set in Greece and is based on a story that Lucca has long wanted to do. He last wrote the character in the 2010s in the serialized and canceled Detective Comics with art by J.H.
The finished artwork for the upcoming Batwoman movie has not yet been released, but panel attendees were shown some unfinished artwork at NYCC. The series will be a launch title for DC Next Level, which begins in March 2026 and is separate from the current DC KO event.
DC KO Update
Decide who is worthy of fighting Darkseid in the DC KO Tournament. Friday’s “Jim Lee and Friends” panel confirmed that the multiverse tournament will feature characters from outside the regular DC Universe and Absolute Universe, including Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero, horror icon Annabelle, Vampirella, Homelander, and Samantha from Patrick Horvath’s Harvey Award-winning series “Under the Tree That No One Ever Seen.”
Saturday’s panelists included editor Paul Kaminsky and creators Scott Snyder, Joshua Williamson, Javi Fernandez, Hayden Sherman and Jeremy Adams. Following the efforts of DC All In, which revealed that Darkseid is a bigger force in ending life, DC KO is meant to be the March Madness of comics. The idea is to encourage conversation about who will win in the fight and bring some serious hype to the panel.
“I’ve been away from DC for a while, and Josh said the culture and climate is great right now and creators are moving forward,” Snyder said. “We went all in on these things. We rethought how we could redo events, rethink how we could bring people into our stores, but we were committed to executing on (DC KO’s) idea if three things were in place.
“One, it’s a great story. What started out all-in escalated a lot,” he continued. “Second, it’s a priority. We want everyone to feel invited. If you haven’t read it, it’s like a Saturday morning comic or on steroids, anyone can read it. What superheroes mean to us in difficult times. The third is what the event is on the other side of it, giving us a better version of DC.”
Snyder said the main theme of the DC KO event, which aims to turn the winner into a cosmic monster powerful enough to stop Darkseid, is “Will they become enemies to save the universe?”
Adams talked about Aquaman and his transformation into the Omega fighter. he said: “He’s become very OP in his Blue incarnation, but the fact that his elemental forces are corrupt also ruins him.
Below are spoilers for DC KO.
Panelists revealed that characters will face off in one-on-one battles in standard format in the first round of the tournament, but can then respawn in any version from DC’s continuity. Battles specifically mentioned include:
Superman vs. Captain Atom (who later returns as the Monarch). Aquaman vs. Hawkman Wonder Woman vs. Lobo Cyborg vs. Swamp Thing Harley Quinn vs. Zatanna Jay Garrick vs. Guy Gardner Lex Luthor vs. Demon Red Hood vs. Joker In Round 2, the Hood returns as Robin.
dc next level
It has been revealed that Lucca and Dani’s Batwoman will appear as a launch title for DC Next Level starting in March 2026, and that artist Scotty Young will draw the robot.
DC Next Level will feature “a lot of new talent” and aims to provide readers with more entry points. Having said that, panelists said the times will not be to abolish existing lines but to launch more plans.
