Luana Vecchio revisits the world of the Lovesick Club in “Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale,” a new prequel series that tells the origin story of the dark web’s most notorious dominatrix, Domino. Published by Image Comics, the four-part miniseries will be available in comic shops on December 11th, retailing for $3.99.
Synopsis:
“Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale” tells the story of Madeline, a 12-year-old girl who’s scared to grow up. She’s afraid of becoming like a cruel older girl or facing the scorn of her devoutly religious mother. But most of all, she doesn’t want to become a target for the monsters that lurk around every corner. But a stomach-churning discovery forces Madeline to face the harsh reality that adulthood isn’t a choice, it’s survival. Thrown into a world of perverted killers and immoral websites, she must come to terms with her own dark obsessions, and is led down a dark path to becoming the infamous Mother Demon, Domino.”
The book will feature five cover variations by Vecchio (including a linked cover) and an additional cover variation by Jessica Cioffi (aka LOPUTYN).
In a press release from Image Comics, Vecchio spoke about the upcoming book and hinted that it could be an interlude before a sequel to Lovesick .
“After Lovesick, I knew I couldn’t stay away from Domino for long. But before I returned to Lovesick Club, I knew I had to take a step back, explore Domino’s soul, dive into those sad eyes and get back to her roots – to Madeleine.”
Whereas the main Lovesick series consciously employed a more mature combination of horror and erotica, Vecchio hints at a more accessible shift in tone with Doll Parts.
“I have always dreamed of writing a coming-of-age thriller horror set in the 2000s, the time when I was a teenager. Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale explores what it means to be a young girl in a world where youth is a double-edged sword – both a strength and a weakness. I am extremely proud of my work and the themes I have tackled, and I believe the comic book world needs a character like Madeline.”
addition:
“We wanted to create a miniseries that anyone could enjoy, even if it was their first time discovering the world of Lovesick. There will be no latex-clad dominatrixes or graceful cannibals. The horror unfolds within the walls of the home, in the online world, and on the journey of adolescence. It’s not an easy journey, but it’s a necessary one. Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale is a celebration of the comics medium and a statement that even the most uncomfortable stories should be told freely.”
