Oni Press celebrates one of the comic’s most inspiring illustrators with an epic new art book.
Announced today, Carbon-Based: Luis LaRosa’s Art is the first-ever career retrospective, a gorgeous, oversized, hardcover, showing off more than 250 pages of raw, unfiltered, painstakingly detailed linework that spans his decades-long career. Known for its signature blend of hyperrealism, stylized grit and film storytelling, LaRosa is collected in one impressive volume, including bloody reincarnation, divinity, Punisher, Shadowman, Savage, Transformers and more.
The books coming out soon on Kickstarter include:
Rarely seen covers, character designs, concept art
New commentary from Larosa and former Valiant Eck Warren Simons
Essays from top creators such as Lee Bermejo, Dave Johnson, Jeff Lemire, Matt Kindt, and Yanick Paquette
Preface by ONI Press President and Publisher Hunter Golinson
Fans are now notified following the Kickstarter Pre-Launch page when the campaign is officially opened. Exclusive rewards include foil stamp hardcovers, limited edition slip cases, signed books, t-shirts, portfolio sets, and more.
Below you can find exclusive art from Divinity. Just a glimpse of the “carbon-based” strength Larosa brings to every page.
But wait, Larosa has something to say about the project:
“Re: Divinity. I wanted to create a sci-fi character design that was amazing for Matt Kindt, unique silhouettes, impressive colour patterns, and ultimately a timeless sci-fi character design that was drawn by the artist and enjoyed by readers. Cherry edits these elements into a superhero costume.
“Larosa’s linework envelops energy and vitality. Looking at his art pages is a reminder of the pure power potential of comic book storytelling.” – Hunter Golinson, Oni Press
As Carbon Base is ready for release, look forward to more and get ready to watch the comics through LaRosa’s unparalleled analog lens.
