Massive Indies, a subdistribution program run by Massive Publishing, has announced its first two publishers, Heavy Metal and Devil’s Due.
Massive is distributed directly by the lunar distribution, but offers a large indie programme to provide small publishers in the integrated part of the catalog. Both Heavy Metal and Devils dews provide high quality creator material, but this plan seems to make sense for everyone involved, as they have very small lines that the circles struggle to pick up.
As explained by Massive CEO Michael Calero, Heavy Metal and Massive have some history. “A few years ago, Heavy Metal teamed up with Massive to release the historic final issue of the magazine’s first volume. Now it’s thrilling to be part of the magazine’s revival and work with both Heavy Metal and the Moon to put these books on the shelf of a comic shop and finally reach the hands of excited fans.”
Heavy metal has a long history of its own, but recently it was re-opened on Kickstarter for Fabled Magazine’s new #1, a huge 240-page edition, raising $800,000. This issue will be put to comic shops as part of a large indie. This issue includes Greg Hill Debrandt and Frank Frazetta (pictured below), Tula Lottei, Kelongland, Genevsky, David Palumbo, Enkivilal, Craig Wilson, Sergio Gerasy, Michael Conrad, Leah Moore, John Repion, Anna Morozova, Antonio Yogra, Jodura, Joseph Michael Michael Ortiz, Fernando Danino, Tim Viville, Paul Kirchner, John Workman, and Jim Rug.
However, this deal is a little more complicated than joining a large indie. Another branch that makes up the group, Massive Select, has its own variant edition of new heavy metal, and is covered by Walking Dead co-creator Tony Moore giving to classic HM covers of the past.
Devil’s Dew is another publisher with a long history under publisher Josh Blaylock. Current offerings include those written by Blaylock and dismissed by Pop Man, covered by Michael Golden, Tim Seeley and Dave Johnson. Logline: “‘Gijoe Meets the Boys'” series is crowdfunded in upcoming campaigns for the Pilot Edition.
