Star Wars Vader’s Legacy #1 Cover by Derrick Chu
After killing his master, Supreme Leader Snoke, Kylo Ren is now the leader of the First Order, but the murder of his father, his defeat at the hands of Luke Skywalker, and his surprise encounter with the mysterious Rey… Recent events involving a relationship force him to think. About what it really means to be Vader’s successor. In pursuit of a dark mission to bring order to the galaxy, Kylo’s madness leads him down a dangerous path to learn the truth about his grandfather’s life. From Mustafar to Tatooine, these are thrilling adventures that allowed Kylo to confront his inner turmoil and meet his destiny.
Saul describes the series as a must-read for fans of his previous Star Wars work, saying: Vader and Giuseppe Camuncoli and my 2019 series The Rise of Kylo Ren and Will Sliney. I think both worked so well in part because they were set in parts of the Star Wars timeline that were full of unanswered questions about characters that audiences really loved. ”
Elaborating on this premise, he explains: “Kylo is really lost in this particular moment. In a very short period of time, he confronts two of the most important leaders in the battle (one of them being his uncle), kills his own father, kills his mother, He almost steals control of a galactic-level military that he has no idea how to use, and of course discovers a deep connection to another Force user named Rey. All of that swirls around in his emotional matrix, making him deeply unstable, angry, frustrated, and dangerous in every way he can get, even if he won’t admit it. Seeking guidance, he turns to almost the only thing left of him: the legacy of his grandfather, the Sith Lord Darth Vader.
Editor Mark Paniccia said: “Charles has been wanting to tell these stories for a while, and the perfect opportunity has finally come. You’ll be shocked by the revelations that await him. It’s something you wouldn’t expect from Kylo and Vader’s past. And Luke Ross has taken visual storytelling to a new level. The design of the pages is incredible, and Kylo’s dark. It is connected to a painful story.”
