Oni Press, a multi-Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publisher that has published groundbreaking comics and graphic novels since 1997, has many exciting graphic novels on its 2026 schedule. Announced today at Comic Book Club Live is another exciting addition to Oni’s 2026 graphic novel releases. It’s German comic book creator Klaus Daniel Herrmann’s U.S. debut, Pink Monsters , which tells the moving story of putting aside negative thoughts and coming out as LGBTQIA+.

Pink Monsters, which will be released in May 2026 ahead of Pride Month, tells the story of 14-year-old Frank, who gradually realizes he is gay. Although he has a shy personality, he is popular at school due to his talent as an illustrator. All the “cool” kids want Frank’s original monster paintings to hang in their rooms. Frank’s life is going well, but his father is not feeling well. After suffering from severe depression, Frank’s mother gives up traditional medicine as a way to help her husband and contacts an esoteric healer named Thea. Thea blames Frank and his sexual orientation for her father’s illness.

“The ability to access one’s emotions and think critically is key to self-determination, especially in a world where fellow humans assert unverifiable beliefs and use them to recklessly destroy personal boundaries,” Herman said in a press release provided to Comics Beat. “I hope that readers, whether they are young people themselves or are already responsible for the younger generation, will find a striking example of this in my story.”

Editor-in-Chief Christopher Selassi said, “Klaus Daniel Herrmann has created a moving and timely story about how people in positions of false authority think they know better, but use that influence to manipulate others and make them feel inferior.” “Pink Monsters” navigates these heavy emotional themes through the lens of a young man who ultimately decides to stand up for himself and his identity, and finds acceptance and friendship on the other side.”

“Pink Monsters” is a finalist for the Berthold Leibinger Comics Award, and Oni describes it as “a powerful, graphic medical story in the vein of “Fun Home” and “Right Than My Shadow.”
