Amazon discontinues Kindle Oasis. This decision means that there will no longer be any models of e-readers with physical buttons for turning pages. “Once the current inventory of Kindle Oasis is sold out online and in stores, we will not restock the device,” Amazon representative Devon Corvasce told The Verge. “All of our devices are now touch-forward and our customers are used to this.”
Oasis is a model that was introduced in 2016. The lightweight and asymmetrical design that can be used with one hand stood out, but the high price may have kept many people from considering it. If you don’t like touch interfaces for reading, there are options on the market to turn pages using buttons. The Kobo Libra Color is one of our favorites.
Even if Oasis becomes just a mirage, the Kindle family isn’t getting any smaller. Amazon announced several upgrades to its device line this week, including its first color e-book reader, the Kindle Colorsoft. We also got some time to get hands-on with the latest Kindle Scribe, and the Kindle Paperwhite has also been revamped.
