LAKE FOREST, Calif. – September 3, 2024 – Cryptozoic Entertainment, a leading creator of tabletop games, trading cards and collectibles, in collaboration with Warner Bros., Discovery Global Consumer Products and DC, today announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign for DC Deck-Building Game: Arkham Asylum.

Following the success of the 2023 and 2024 DC Deck-Building Game Kickstarter campaigns, which collectively raised nearly $2 million in revenue, the new campaign features the latest major release in the popular series, a core set focused on the supervillains of Batman from the comics. Additionally, fans can donate to the Batman Edition and Joker Edition in travel boxes made from premium materials that contain a foldable playmat. There are also several additional items and exclusives that fans can pre-order, including two crossover pack expansions, the DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth expansion, an expansion based on the Super Friends TV series, a playmat, 2DZ acrylic standees, resin tokens and card sleeves.

“The DC deck-building game community is at the heart of what we do, and we can’t wait for the next 30 days to share our love for the DC Universe and the game series,” said Shahriar Fouladi, VP of Product Development and Marketing at Cryptozoic. “We chose Arkham Asylum as the theme for our latest core set because, like most fans, we love Batman’s rogues gallery and wanted to design a game that put them at the forefront. We’re also super excited about the new travel box, which may be the coolest gaming accessory we’ve ever created, and we’re excited to introduce the 2DZ acrylic standee. We have lots of awesome stretch goals and surprises planned for our fans!”

DC Deck-Building Game: Arkham Asylum features Gotham City’s super-villains, including The Joker, Harley Quinn, The Riddler, and Two-Face. Players compete to defeat Batman and his allies, take hostages, earn victory point tokens, and use bribery to rise to the top of Gotham City’s criminal underworld. There are two amazing covers by talented artists: a Philip Tan cover showcasing a host of super-villains, and a Kickstarter-exclusive Matteo Scalera cover featuring The Joker and Harley Quinn that are only available in certain tiers.

The DC Deck-Building Game Travel Box allows fans to pack their favorite games and expansion packs from the series and take them with them when meeting friends, attending gaming events, or traveling. It comes in two versions: Batman Edition and the Kickstarter-exclusive Joker Edition. The exterior of each box is made from premium PU leather and is embossed with character-inspired design elements. The box cover closes with a magnet and unfolds and can be removed to reveal a playmat on the other side showcasing iconic DC artwork by Jim Lee and Scott Williams. One row inside the box holds approximately 500 sleeved cards.

The campaign will feature 2DZ acrylic stands from Cryptozoic. Each of the four packs contains three or four stands, depicting DC characters used in the DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth series, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Green Arrow and Darkseid. Each double-sided stand stands approximately 2.5-inches tall and includes a base. Players can use them to power their characters in DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth or use them to represent the characters they’re playing in any game in the series.

The Kickstarter campaign features five expansion packs for fans to pre-order: The highly anticipated DC Deck-Building Game: Crisis Expansion Pack 5 – Death Metal adds cooperative gameplay to the base game as players must work together to overcome Crisis events. Expanding on the gameplay of the Dark Nights: Metal base game, this release adds Crisis Lineup Cards, 11 new characters to play as, 12 Nemesis and Crisis cards to overcome, and two storylines to progress through based on Dark Nights: Metal and Dark Nights: Death Metal.

Other expansion packs for the DC deck-building game available on Kickstarter include “Crossover Pack 11: The Dark Knight Rises,” in which players become the Dark Knight from Batman Who Laughs and defeat Earth’s superheroes, the “Super Friends Expansion Pack” inspired by the classic animated series, “Crossover Pack 12,” which will only be revealed in full during the campaign, and “Rebirth One-Shot Pack 3,” which adds Black Adam-themed gameplay to the DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth series.

The Kickstarter for DC Deck-Building Game: Arkham Asylum runs from today through October 3rd, with pledges starting at $75. A number of additional cards and other upgrades will be added to the product as stretch goals are unlocked. Pre-order items are scheduled to be delivered to backers in July 2025. Retail releases for many products will follow after that.
