Every week there’s a real horny that hits the stands of new comics. Readers often know exactly what they are most interested in (they have their pull lists sitting in the reliable hands of comic shops), but they are sometimes told about opposing that old trim and judging the book by its cover.

Some truly amazing cover art hits every week. These were the ones that caught Colin’s eye for the week of August 6th, 2025.

Archie vs. Minor Threat #1

Variant by Joe Quinones

I love the depth that Quinon adds to the Riverdale world. The minor threat crew is, of course, fundamentally different from Archie’s, but even Arch, Jugied and Sabrina exist in some way than their own comics.

Bird of Prey #24

Variants by Bruno Redondo

This image has athleticism: Canary’s resolve looks at the challenge of training. It speaks to Canary’s commitment, but it also speaks to the difficult training that stands in front of any fighter plane.

Hello Darkness #13

Variants by Tula Lotay

Of course, the knife threat on the back is certainly true, but it is Shadow’s wild, shining eyes that bring the biggest fear in Lotay’s new variant. An intent manifestation of evil.

Helberin #9

Variant by J Scott Campbell

A standard Bernie Bourne Boy riding a bike with Campbell’s constant smooth style. It’s interesting to see how rider styles blend over time, including Danny Ketch’s spikey leather jacket and Johnny’s old school bike.

JSA #10

Covered by Leonardo Romero

This hyperstyling group portrait is a very persuasive use of negative spaces. A great, unique way to showcase your characters.

Red Sonja vs. Army of Darkness #5

Variants by Björn Barends

Even with the fearsome red Sonja, it’s not a good day to become Ash Williams. I love her ritual paint in blue.

Resurrected Man: Quantum Karma #5

Variants by Steve Beach

The Man of the Resurrection: Even if Quantum Karma wasn’t that incredible book, the cover was consistently worth the cover price. This is a book that everyone should pick up, not because it looks like this.

Sonja Reborn #1

Cover by stjepanšejić

Sonja earned his second spot this week with this expressive, terrifying giant lizard beast cover. It’s her face that does that here. She’s not like a cartoon shorthand for a pretty woman’s face, but like someone you might actually meet. Monsters won’t hurt either.
