Every week there’s a real horny that hits the stands of new comics. Readers often know exactly what they are most interested in (they have their pull lists sitting in the reliable hands of comic shops), but they are sometimes told about opposing that old trim and judging the book by its cover.

Some truly amazing cover art hits every week. These were the ones that caught Colin’s eye for the week of March 26th, 2025.

Absolute Mars Manhunter #1

Variant Cover by David Aja

David Aja’s design sense is refined, impeccable and dynamic, and the first issue of Absolute Martian Manhunter introduces it perfectly. Abstracted, geometric, and false snappy point the identity of our detective hero. This is a movement among law enforcement that has special implications for secret identities.

Absolute Wonder Woman #6

Variants by Dustin Nuguen

Young Diana and all the beasts of Hell. Nguyen has the talent to put young characters in great situations and does so with 50 issues in the Descender/Ascender cycle. The whimsical sensations given to these horrible pets – I especially love the eye-opening things – are fun.

Dark Wing Duck #2

Variant by Ciro Cangialosi

Covers for this bushroot feature pack the little cactus minions, pirate launchpads and even the madolfoot child in the middle of the heijink. The colours here are great, and Canlialosi once again has made a wonderfully wide and stable Disney cartoon with incredibly talented.

GI Joe #315

Variant by Francis Portela

You know I love covers in good, iconic colors. Here, Commander Cobra becomes one in his particular shade of blue. Details of the fabric of his suit slowly become indifferent. A great use of juxtaposition. Of all Cobra Buddies, the Commander has one of the most unique and satisfying designs. Destro may have an entire metal face, but the blank slate wedges on Cobra Commander always seemed sinister to me.

Hello Darkness #9

Variants by Mike Del Mundo

Body horror meets Media Nostalgia with this scary cassette face. Magnetic tape, toothed reel eyes, and lovingly sticky labels of letters all have in mind that you’re trying to fix your untouched mixtape. Maybe this is Del Mundo, who captures the panic sensation of the process: if you don’t fix that tape, how else do you remember which song your crush meant for you?

Rogue: Savageland #3

Variant by J Scott Campbell

J Scott Campbell brings cake to one of the most beloved bits of Bronze Age cheesecake costumes. Leave it to Campbell and put on shoes with a toothy t-rex. I love that Rogue’s Tarzan Vine Swing is scattering the trade dress on the cover.

Superman #24

Variant by David Nakayama

Another colour cover, this time, we’re shining the spotlight on a new Superwoman costume. Nakayama always provides a smooth, silky texture. This somehow adds to Lois’s sense of weightlessness, all flowing hair and swirling cape. It’s an impressive outfit and a lovely image.

We’re defeating everyone with #1

Variants by Joshua Hood

Gunshot robot murder! This cover is a small cog that flies off from the wounds of an explosive bullet – attractive and attractive. This cover does exactly what a comic cover should do. It asks you to wonder what’s going on and invites you to pick up the problem. It’s certainly exciting to see what this new series is.
