Every week there’s a real horny that hits the stands of new comics. Readers often know exactly what they are most interested in (they know their pull lists sit in the reliable hands of comic shops), but with that old truth and There are times when people are told about opposing the review. Books on the cover are based on the cover.
Some truly amazing cover art hits every week. These were the ones that caught Colin’s eye for the week of February 19, 2025.
Batman/Superman: The World’s Best #36
Cover by Dan Mora
Dan Mora’s best works in the world have been some of the best and most continuing works in one of the Big 2 in the past few years. In fact, the entire series is filled with a kind of clean, crisp celebration feel. Just love their time, it comes from both writing and Mora’s artwork. It’s easy to see why MORA has been playing so many times in DC lately. Do this, run Justice League Unlimited, and do facsimile covers in the future.
On the cover of this issue, floraman looks terrible. Dan Mora places the man in front of him, choking him with Viney’s details, and the looming swamp promises an even more leafy action. Images have many fears. This is something that has not been popular in the series up to this point, and I find its novelty to be frightening and vibrant.
Batman and Robin: 5th year
Cover by Chris Samney
Speaking of horror, this clay face covering is scary. It’s also packed with action and information. Robin’s gloved hand reaches up towards the sewer, as Batman reaches out and slowly covers Clayface’s terrifying and gooseblushes. Samnee always has a certain timeless style. This is perfect for one series this year. It also gives this image a kind of prototype quality, as if to cover everything you need to know about clay references visually and atmospheric.
Catwoman #73
Cover by Sebastiánfiumara
The great thing about certain bat-and-cat themed characters is that it is impossible to get the silhouette wrong (there are a number of femfatals adjacent to cats). This Fiumra cover does so much in negative space. – Glowing eyes and belts feel almost magical in their glow. What is the key? I don’t know.
The cyberpunky neon behind her is clearly telling us. This means that it’s not a standard Gotham adventure. We’re somewhere else and Selina is probably getting a big score.
New Gods #3
Covers by Nimit Malavia and Mike Huddleston
New Gods #3 doesn’t have two, and four incredible covers this week. The main cover of Nimit Malavia rocks an aesthetic ape from artist Alphonse Mucha. It is very convincing to place such technical sci-fi armor on their classic trappings and many Kirby Crackles that Mucha may have made an elaborate tessellation of flowers. It really sells us what this is: the adventures of space nonsense.
I also wanted to spotlight Mike Huddleston’s amazing big Berta cover. I love that outfit: a big bold colour for a big and bold heroine. She feels bigger than life and tears all of those parademons. Also: That crackle. You need to have it.
Penthouse Comic #1
Cover by Cameron Stewart
I was a bit worried about including this cover in the thin spices, but then I thought our perverted central figure could cosplay her most exaggerated Emma Frost. This could be an average night for the Classic Hellfire Club.
What’s surprising about this cover is Cameron Stewart’s ability to solidify the character’s personality outside of trapping like the fetish of imagery. This woman’s face is incredibly expressive and pushes into the realm of potentially flat pinup couture and character. This piece has a high fashion appeal, and it makes you rich with a limited chilly palette. This is the costume concept for an absolutely wild and somehow cold afterparty.
Zatanna #1
Variants by Chris Bacharo
Chris Bacharo cannot create artwork without style. His output is instantly identifiable as him, even when he is as calm and compact as this cover. Zatanna looks cool and easy in a simple, scary landscape of grabbing her hands. She looks rad and she’s in some kind of awful hell. Characters are sold as forces that are considered without any action required.
It’s safe to say that Zatanna has a different series. Not only are we getting a new adventure, we are also about to reach the full bounty of new, incredible variant covers.
