Comic creator Joe Quesada has resigned to launch his own incredible comic imprint under Mad Cave Studios after more than 20 years in various roles, including editor-in-chief and best creative officer. Despite the new and creative venture, Quesada has not completely said goodbye to Marvel. In fact, for a while, the writer/artist has been quite teasing the new Marvel project for being associated with the Marvel Knights, which many have speculated. Sure enough, the publisher has officially released details of Marvel Knights: The World to Come.

Joining Quesada for this Marvel Knights miniseries is author Christopher who, along with Quesada’s regular colorist Richard Isanove, wrote the title of Black Panther as part of the launch of the original Marvel Knights Line.

Released in 1998 by Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, Marvel Knights was a trace of the “adult-focused” title that provided Marvel with much needed vigor while delving into bankruptcy. The importance of the Marvel Knights Line in general cannot be overstated for publishers and manga.

Here’s how the publisher explained the project:

Marvel Knights: The World To Come, developed and almost finished, combines decades of experience with Quesadas and priests to create a clever comic book saga to create an entirely new vision for the Marvel Universe. The story begins in Wakanda, with incredible developments centered around T’Challa, Storm, Shuri and more reverberating around the world, transforming Marvel Mythos as you know, and boldly reinventing the most legendary heroes.

The King of Wakanda is dead, leaving the world’s most advanced technology, the most precious metals and mysterious safes of dark secrets vulnerable, causing a global conflict between Marvel heroes, villains and mutants. With T’Challa gone and the future of the Marvel Universe wobbles the edge of the vibranium knife, the tribal challenge continues on the throne of Wakandan, and its mysterious winner appears as Wakanda’s new leader and becomes the asher of the world ahead.

It tells the history behind Marvel Knights, Quesada said.

“In September 1998, Marvel Knights Daredevil #1 hit the stands, followed by Punisher, Inhuman and Black Panther. Eight months ago, Jimmy Palmiotti, Nansi Dekeson, I spent endless hours and sleepless nights with our creators to create the best book we could. We knew they looked different – like the edge of what Marvel was publishing at the time – but in the struggles of comic book industry, there was no guarantee that no one would notice. We were sure they would work, but we didn’t expect overwhelming fan reactions or the lasting impact that Marvel Knights would have on Marvel.

“Fast-forward to October 2017. My best bud, mentor, Marvel Knight, Black Panther writer (and for my money, the best writer in comics), Christopher’s priest pitched the idea that his former Marvel Knights would take T’Challa and Wakanda. It was insane, beautiful, hellish edgy. I told him I had to draw it – and we should get bigger.”

Quesada added:

“The priest delivered Opus, a journey that allows us and our fans to involve those original books. Since Marvel Knights Daredevil #1, drawing the project has never been more fun.”

The project is a full circle moment when executive editor Nicklow said he said.

“More than 20 years ago, I started as an editorial assistant for Marvel Knights books. Now you can see Joe and the priest celebrate it with this masterpiece.” “We’ve been working on this for a long time (Joe finishes the last page of No. 5 this week), but I can’t believe the world will come with us in June!”

Marvel Knights: The World To Come No.1 arrives at the store on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025. Check out the interior art below.
