As previously announced, The Avengers will celebrate its landmark 800th issue next month, with seminal writer Brian Michael Bendis set to return. Today, Marvel announced that writer Jed McKay, who started the re-released Avengers series three years ago, will end the series with Avengers #36 in March. This issue will be illustrated by current series artist Farid Karami. To celebrate this important moment in Avengers history, original series artist CF Villa is back with a special farewell cover that mirrors Stuart Immonen’s cover for McKay’s serialized debut issue.

From the introduction of the Twilight Court and the Ashen Combine to the time-traveling intrigues of Karn and the Blood Hunt, it’s been an era of dramatic victories and epic stakes. Now, everything Jed McKay has built comes crashing down in this stunning finale that redefines the future of the Avengers!

In leaving the title behind, McKay said, “While we are sad to say goodbye to the Avengers, who have chronicled their adventures over the past few years, we have certainly had fun. Introducing them to the Impossible City, pitting them against their archenemy Kang, and even a bloody I put them through their paces at my first Red Band event! Today I got to work with some of the best artists working on some of Marvel’s biggest characters, and I will forever remember my time with Marvel.” Greetings, Earth’s Mightiest Hero! ”

AVENGERS #36 also establishes the next era of the Avengers. Fans interested in seeing what happens next need look no further than this summer’s Armageddon, which includes upcoming lead-in stories to events like Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon. Captain America #6 begins the next chapter of Captain America with Chip Zdarsky and Valerio City. and the recently announced Comics Giveaway Day™ title, Armageddon/X-Men #1 CGD 2026.
