Frequent collaborators of writer Jeff Lemia and artist Dustin Nuguen, released in March, are reunited for Robin & Batman: Jason Todd. Today, DC announced the preview page and cover of the first issue.
I have previously explored the early career of original Robin Dick Grayson in the 2022 Robin & Batman miniseries. Tackling Jason Todd with Lemia and Nuguen is the logical next step. As teased in the original announcement, the new Robin & Batman: Jason Todd miniseries introduces a mysterious new villain.
Their salt-worthy comic fans are well aware of Jason Todd’s infamous reputation in Batman mythology. Jason Todd’s era as Robin, introduced in 1983 as a virtual carbon copy of Dick Grayson, may be short, but there is no denying that it left a lasting impression. It was concise, but shocking. Following the events of the crisis on the Infinite Earth, Jason is given a new origin for a child living on the streets who meet Batman after boosting Batmobile tires. In 1988 he was notoriously murdered on fan orders during his death in the family’s storyline. (For a much more detailed look at Jason’s time as Robin, check out the oral history of the characters from creation to death). This is a cartoon, and decades later he resurrected to acquire the Red Hood Mantle, which later gained new popularity.
In addition to the main cover of Dustin Nguyen, variant covers are also available from series writers Jeff Lemire, Rafael Albukerque and John McCrea & Mike Spicer. The lettering is by Steve Ones.
Check out the preview below and look for Robin & Batman: Jason Todd #1 to arrive at the comic store on Wednesday, June 11th.
