Image introduced the Image Select Retailer Award initiative in early 2024, saying, “It is intended to mess up the perceptions of members of the comic book Direct Market Retail Community members in order to serve their customers, expand their audience and expand a healthier market. Image invites fans to nominate local comic shops awarded quarterly for the award, based on the following criteria:
Experimental Customer Service Thoughtful and exciting Handseller recommendations, efforts to cultivate an attractive and comprehensive atmosphere of attractive and innovative displays, robust inventory and support of attractive and innovative customer marketing and out-of-box consumer outreach community engagement image comics and other creator-owned/indie comics
“Simply put, comic bookstores are the backbone of our industry and we all enjoy it because direct market development would not have been possible without the support of the owners and staff of advanced comic book store owners and their staff.”
Previous recipients of the Image Select Retailer Award include Nirvana Comics in Knoxville, Tennessee. Hole Justice Comics in Parker, Colorado, and Peebles Comics & Games from Scotland. A fantasy in four colors from Winchester, Virginia.
The fall 2025 nomination period will soon be announced through official image websites and social media channels, as well as monthly distribution communications with both retailers and the public.
