Image’s new horror offering, Ninth Circle, has released Blood Train, a one-shot by writer Adam Glass, artist Bernard Chang, and letterer Dave Sharpe. The comic, which will be released next year, follows a group of friends traveling on the Siberian Express, when one of them is infected by a biological weapon and turns into a monster.
Blood Train Moon Recruitment
28 Days Later meets The Ruins in this high-stakes standalone horror story. After backpacking through Asia, a group of friends begin their journey home aboard the Siberian Express. Little do they know, they have bought a one-way ticket to hell. One of them is infected with a biological weapon and turns into a monster that slaughters everyone on the train. If the biological weapons reach their destination in Europe, World War III will begin. Now, these friends have to make a difficult choice. You can kill your loved ones to save the world, or you can die trying.
Glass explains that the comic was inspired by his fears for his own children. “Many of the experiences I valued when I was younger are becoming increasingly difficult for Gen Z,” he says. “When my college-age kids excitedly announced their plans to backpack through Europe by train, just as the war in Ukraine was breaking out, I was filled with worry: the potential risks, the spread of coronavirus. The idea for Blood Train took shape as I reflected on the recent lockdown and growing anxiety.
He continued, “From the moment I came up with this story, I knew I wanted to collaborate with Bernard Chan, one of my favorite artists. Bernard Chan is an excellent artist and passionate world traveler. We immediately embraced this project. Together, we poured our hearts into this work and hope you will be as excited as we were about bringing it to life. ”
Chang added, “Working on Blood Train was a blood-curdling experience. “Story” is always at the final layer of the process, but “collaboration” is what I ended up with. It’s a lasting experience to cherish. Adam Glass has been like Brawl Stars to me since working on Teen Titans for over two years at DC Comics. We hope our love and passion for storytelling is reflected on our pages and leaves you wanting more. ”
“Blood Train” will be released on January 29th, with a main cover by Chan and an alternate edition by Michael Gaydos, 48 pages and priced at $7.99. The Ninth Circle’s first one-shot, Garth Ennis and Mike Perkins’ Hollywood satire Freddy the Fix, will meanwhile be released on December 11th.
