The new publisher, Ignition Press, has its engine running for a while, is slowly rolling onto the highway looking for both traffic. It was first announced as the new, blockbuster publisher teamed up with Filip Sablik and Jamie S. Rich, and details were spun at a deliberate pace. After bullying the company’s name and their overall goals, they revealed their creator lineup on Comics Pro, and hit the show’s floor with just the finished C2E2. They also announced their first title: a murder podcast written by co-founder Jeremy Haun (Beauty) as art by Mike Tyseland (Dragon Prince). The title is kickstarted and the campaign offers more details
Murder Podcast is a new original comic book series by author Jeremy Havn, co-creator of Beauty, currently in production as an FX series by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Pose). Best known for his horror comic series, including Red Mother and Approach. Recently, the host of the video podcast series, curiosity untold haunts, and murder podcasts promise to take the most unsettling dive into the horror world so far. Joining Haun on this terrifying journey is series artist and animation veteran Mike Tisserand (The Dragon Prince, Diary of Wimpy Kid) and colorist Nick Filardi, lettering and design collectives, and World Design.
and:
“Dead Sounds” is just returning to an astonishing second season. Surprisingly, a new episode has mysteriously appeared on listeners’ feeds. There’s something wrong with this podcast. Something terrifying and murderously wrong.
Sometimes you just have to run away. It will pull you away from the things in life… tough decisions, constant texts, and your own…disappointment. Dexy needs distractions. Probably in the form of a podcast. Unfortunately for her, the person who just showed it on her phone proves deadly…
Crown yourself for a murder podcast.
Horn also provided some details of the story journey:
The campaign has a few more twists. In fact, the murder podcast: The Cold Open, a one-shot showcasing the series. Apparently, cold open will be an ignition function:
I created a cold open format and made it my entry point. Each cold open is a single comic book problem that features a self-contained comic book vignette introducing the world. Each cold open is a satisfying and complete short story, and also includes information on how to get the entire series through more traditional retail channels, such as comic shops, digital marketplaces, and bookstores. Each cold open issue also includes behind the scenes material that delves deeper into the world of murder podcasts and provides a richer reading experience. And Murder Podcast: Cold Open is completely finished, so production and fulfillment can begin shortly after the campaign is over.
From signed copies to tote bags to meetups, there is a retailer class for shops who want to carry the issue.
Crowdfunding may seem like an incredible tool for ignition press.
The project is fully and independently funded, complete and ready, but collective participation unlocks additional upgrades and bonuses. And we might make a murder podcast: cold opens and other items for this campaign are available through other hand-picked, direct consumer channels, but this campaign is the first and best place to guarantee your copy…particularly limited edition items.
That’s why the ignition press does something a little different. The murder podcast was originally announced, but elsewhere, it was announced on the podcast beyond the industry’s comic series on Wednesday. Ignition Publisher’s Filip Sablik appeared in a 2.5 hour chat with a four-hour live stream.
Seriously, people, how am I supposed to listen to a two and a half hour podcast? The pivot to this video is killing me and my range of attention.
Anyway, the ignition press appears to be rolling. The Beauty, a comic by Haun and Jason a Hurley, will be the 11-episode FX series by prolific horror meister Ryan Murphy starring Evan Peters, Anthony Ramos, Jeremy Pope and Ashton Kutcher. The story includes a deadly STD that beautifully beautiful the victim. Another Ignition Press co-founder, Eric Gitter, is one of the executive producers. With the murder podcast, if there’s another high concept story, could more options be far behind?
