If your gaming plans for this weekend don’t include walking around as Godzilla in Fortnite, I don’t know what to tell you. The legendary Titan will be on the island for a limited time starting January 17th, and you might even get the chance to control him.
Developer Epic Games says portals are less likely to pop up on the map during battle royale matches. The first player to find it and jump into it will emerge as a magnificent beast. Godzilla can use his roar ability to reveal nearby players, use his stomp attack to blow players away, and use his heat rays to tear through buildings.
Godzilla is also the de facto boss for other players. They can attack weak points for additional damage or scrape off collectible shards that provide health boosts and dash charges. Epic also brought the railgun back into the game to help players defeat giant creatures. This event will run until the end of the season on February 21st.
It wouldn’t be Fortnite if there weren’t a ton of event-related cosmetics. Players with the current Battle Pass can unlock the Reactive Godzilla skin by completing the quest. After securing your first kill in a match, your costume begins to glow and gets even brighter with each elimination. So if you stand out to your opponents, you can actually be punished for playing too well.
Kong and Mechagodzilla costume bundles are also coming to the shop. The latter will glow when attacking enemy players. The reveal of the costume in the event trailer is quite funny, showing Mechagodzilla stomping through buildings until the camera zooms out to reveal a miniature city. I really hope it’s part of the new emote.
