Recently, there are various platforms for selling comics, why not try using them all? IDW is currently working with an online auction platform to launch its own channels, selling exclusive, signed comics and more collectibles.
It was released just before the pandemic, and took off during the stay era as a mix of live auctions of collectibles combined with jokes and chat. It’s like it was made for lockdown. It’s been a bit cooler since then, but there’s still a big list of vendors and buyers.
The official IDW Publishing will feature weekly live shows, which have just been released and co-hosted by professional sales manager Ryan Balcum and sales associate April Vendetti. Titles offered include Godzilla, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc. Under the Trees No One Sees, All IDW Dark Releases and more.
“We look forward to seeing new ways to interact with our fans directly thanks to WhatNot and its incredible platform,” Balkam said. “We have some really cool stuff, including exclusive content, signed products and more, and we have some great creators in the stream to ultimately chat with readers. I can’t wait to get started. I look forward to seeing you on the weekly show!”
“We are excited to partner with IDW to provide access to exclusive releases in the most exciting ways – Live Show” “We know first hand how much value the format brings, and we look forward to what IDW brings to our collectors community.”
Many comic shops have channels, and some creators have been extremely successful there. Robrifeld claims he sold 500,000 books there, but he is Robrifeld. It’s a time-based way to sell books, but it also creates strong connections with collectors.
Will more publishers follow suit about whatnot? Do you enjoy live shopping auctions? Please let us know in the comments.
