Get ready to go back to the deep edge. Street Sharks are returning to comic book form for the first time in over 20 years. Mattel, Inc. is a global toy powerhouse behind some of the world’s most famous franchises. revived Cult-Classic’s 90s heroes in September 2025, reviving Cult 90s heroes in the 90s.

The upcoming five island miniseries, Street Sharks #1, will reintroduce readers to the Bolton brothers. Originally emerging as a line of animation series and toys in 1994, Street Shark quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, with its evil villain, outrageous action and teeth-like charm.

Leading by author Stephanie Williams (Nubia and Amazon) and artist Ariel Medel (TMNT vs. Street Fighter), the new comic promises an explosive blend of nostalgia and contemporary storytelling. Set on the chaotic streets of a fission city, the shark faced off against twisted experiments, including muscularly tied mutant robsters, ruthless squids, and crazy scientists transformed into a terrifying piranha hybrid. Expect plenty of over-the-top mayhem, as wild motorcycle chases, burger fuel brawls, and ripsters, jabs, streaks and big slamoo fights to protect their homes.

Cover art by Philip Murphy (Cover A) and Elizabeth Beals (Cover C) will be the headline for the release.

“Street Sharks have been a fan favorite for over 30 years, and fans were keen on more stories featuring the fearless Bolton brothers,” said Ryan Ferguson, director of the Global Publishing at Mattel. “We are excited to explore the new depths of this world with IDW and bring these jaw-held characters back to life in comic book form.”

David Jonas, CEO of IDW Media Holdings, reiterated his enthusiasm. “The new partnership with Mattel highlights collaborations like this one, and we are excited to expand the legacy of Street Sharks in this exciting new direction.”

Series editor Nicolas Niño said, “Street Sharks are pure 90’s adrenaline, and its energy is completely translated into comic pages. Stephanie and Ariel are creating stories that respect everything fans love about the original, and that provide a fresh take that new readers can latch.”
