Graphic Universe unveiled a new intermediate graphic novel hit shelf this fall. The beat has all the details. Absolutely everything by author artist Damien Alexander is inspired by his own experience navigating ADHD and middle school, and explores what it’s like to grow up with ADHD.
This book follows Marcela, a sixth grader. He suffers from tasks that her friends seem to handle without making a fuss. Alexander said he doodled her in his notebook when he found “direction through art” in his middle school days. Here is the complete overview of absolutely everything:
Life has felt like a lot for Marcela these days. The sixth graders seem intentionally complicated. Marcella forgets her homework and gets distracted. Plus, her best friend has a new friend. Her parents want to even move the apartment. She is trying to track the change, but absolutely everything highlights her! Should Marcela force herself to “better”? Or is there another way to make the path to the life she wants?
“When I started developing absolutely everything, these were some of the first pages I sketched. Marcella’s version of ADHD was not the typical overactive child I saw so much in the media, but the one who was causing anxiety and internal stress.” “As someone with ADHD, I often find my thoughts bouncing off the walls of my skull, leading to a spiral. Until it closes, I finally start doing something else to distract myself.
Below is the page explained by Alexander and the book cover art.
“Absolutely everything is a story about growth and ADHD. But it’s about discovering who you are and what makes you,” said Sean Tulien, editor-in-chief of Graphic Universe. Marcela’s heartwarming journey to understanding and accepting herself will resonate with anyone who has ever questioned her place in this world. ”
Absolutely everything will be available. Books are available everywhere. Pre-orders are currently available.
