If you’re looking for a new smartphone, now is probably the worst time to buy an iPhone. Unless you’re in dire need of an upgrade, hold off for a few days, because Apple’s new iPhones will be announced on Monday, meaning you can pick up the company’s latest and greatest models, or grab the iPhone 15 now at a discounted price. Apple’s event will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino on September 9 at 1pm ET (10am PST). You can stream Apple’s It’s Glowtime event live on YouTube (which we’ve conveniently embedded above) and on Apple’s site.
In terms of new products, we expect the company to unveil four new iPhone models: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Don’t expect a huge leap from the iPhone 15, which Senior Editor Billy Steele called “the most significant update to the regular iPhone in years.” Instead, we’ll see a big push around iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence. As for hardware, we expect the phones to have more powerful processors as usual, slight adjustments to screen size, and a new dedicated camera button on the Pro models.
Apart from the iPhones, we’re also likely to see new Apple Watch models (either Series 10 or Series ‘X’, and possibly the Ultra 3), as well as new AirPods at both the entry and pro levels. For everything we can expect from the event, check out our extensive article on what to expect at the iPhone 16 launch.
Even if you’re not planning on buying a new Apple device this year, you’ll probably still get access to the latest iOS 18 update later in September if your device is eligible (check here). Here’s a look at everything this year’s iOS 18 update has to offer, including Apple Intelligence and enhanced home screen customization options.
Engadget’s Cherlynn Low and Billy Steele will be in Cupertino liveblogging the iPhone event, so be sure to tune in on September 9th for real-time news and analysis.
