College is rowdy, chaotic, and most of all, very confusing. Especially when you’re queer and navigating both platonic and romantic relationships. Written and illustrated by cartoonist Len Strap, How Could You is a debut graphic novel about four college students trying to figure out who they are in the world.
“Every year in college, you discover new forms of heartbreak,” Strapp said. And it certainly is. How Could You follows four women who experience both love and heartbreak over the course of four years. Molly Song, a college senior, vows to get back together with her girlfriend this semester after she dumps him via text. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done considering her ex-boyfriend is currently having a whirlwind romance while studying abroad in France. Molly and her friend Lou Kingston find a rebound girlfriend who has also experienced heartbreak and who happens to be the current girlfriend of Molly’s ex-lover, who catches the eye of both Molly and Lou. I swear to you.

Senior editor Grace Scheipeter had nothing but glowing comments for the creator. “Len has a uniquely clever way of telling stories full of humor, heart, and heartbreak. But through it all, ‘How Could You’ is about finding yourself and finding your way through any college. It tells a story about staying true to yourself, even when you feel lost.”
“How Could You” is important to everyone, whether you’ve made a mistake, said something unkind, been selfish, lost a friend, or lost yourself.” he said. “This is for people who have stumbled into adulthood, carrying guilt over failures and betrayals, and not making amends when they could. This book will find you and let you know that you are not alone. I hope you will let me know.”
How Could You, released on December 17th and published by Onipress, is now in bookstores.
