Comic Conventions are dreams and nightmares. The chaotic crowd, sleepless nights lined up, the holy grail of the legendary Hall H panels all clash in fear of Hall H, a new horror anthology that arrived in July this year from Image Comics and Saisy Publishing.
Writers Jordan Hart (Ripple Effect) and Chris Liall (Zombies vs. Robots) unleash twisted love letters to the con artist’s culture, turning the familiar fan experience into a spine-shaking horror story. Teasing first with a special holiday horror, this oversized one-shot is a place with long lines and limited items, hiding right next to the showroom floor.
In all-star roster artwork, including Nelson Daniel (Diet), Piotl Kowalski (Creepshaw), Jimmy Kukazi (Come Finding Me) and Chris Anderson (Heavy Metal), this issue explores the darkest corners of fandom. At the heart of this is Hall H itself. This is the most infamous room in history, and the screaming may not be just for fans.
“For me, the convention started out in a hazy bowling alley and evolved into a pop culture barhara of San Diego comic scam,” Hart said. “So it was easy to twist the experience into a terrifying tale. It had satire, sights and a whole lot of confusion.”
Ryall added: “As someone who hasn’t missed the San Diego comic scam since 1997, I’ve seen magic and madness.
The comic features multiple covers, including a striking rap-around by Nelson Daniel, a variant of the Combadge-style by Hart, and a main cover by Maria Wolf (Cosmic Ghost). Whether you’re a stubborn horror fan, a convention veteran, or simply love a good satire, Hall H is a must-read.
Hall H’s HITS Comic Shops July 23rd. Pre-order from your local comic store or priority digital platform. Be careful with that panel line. I don’t know what awaits me in the darkness.
