Viz Media has announced its next major anime projects: This is an award-winning manga by Shinzo Keigo, a joint production of Hirayasumi. Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co., Ltd. In partnership with, this marks a milestone moment in Viz’s expanding animation portfolio, highlighting its commitment to spotlighting Japan’s most famous creators on a global scale.

The animation is the highly acclaimed studio behind Orbital Children, produced by Dead Deadeded Destruction, showing high expectations for Hirayasumi’s debut on screen.

First consecutive in 2021 Shogakan’s big weekly comic spirit, Hiraya Sumi won critics and readers alike with quietly powerful storytelling and emotionally resonating artwork. Viz brought the series to English-speaking audiences in May 2024, and has since become one of the most talked about cartoons in recent memory. With over 1.1 million copies and six English volumes released worldwide, Hirayasumi continues to gain momentum as a breakout hit.

In addition to its growing legacy, live-action adaptations of the series have also been announced, further strengthening its cultural impact.

“I’m so happy to hear that it’s adapted to anime and drama!” creator Kigo Sinzo said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing both shows!”

At the heart of Hirayasumi is 29-year-old Hiroto Ikuta. He’s a relaxed, purposeless man with no work, no girlfriend, no ambition. Others struggle with sadness, anxiety and adult pressure, but hiroto simply does his best to live in the moment.

Additional information on the anime’s premiere date and international developments will be released in the coming months.
