Hilton has partnered with Be My Eyes to make hotel stays more accessible to guests who are visually impaired. This free app connects users with sighted volunteers and businesses who can use video calls to help navigate spaces and complete tasks.
By navigating to the app’s service directory, selecting the “Hotels” option and selecting the name of the Hilton brand you’re staying at, Be My Eyes users will be connected to the chain’s expert team. Hilton staff can talk to you through actions such as finding and adjusting the in-room thermostat, making coffee, adjusting window coverings, and navigating to different areas of the hotel. The partnership covers brands such as Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, DoubleTree by Hilton and Hampton by Hilton, but is currently only in the U.S. and Canada.
Hilton and Be My Eyes first collaborated last year to help train the latter’s Be My AI language model using GPT-4. The goal was to improve the model’s ability to recognize objects in a Hilton hotel room and how to navigate the space. Be My Eyes also uses AI to capture text from things like menus and toiletry bottles, helping users understand what’s written on the bottle.
