Hellboy creator Mike Mignora and renowned animator and cartoonist Bruce Zick (The Mighty Thor, The Atomic Legion, Primordial) have announced a new limited edition series set in the Hellboy Universe. Captain Henry and The Gravyard of Time will be co-written by Mignora and Zick, and Zick will also be featured in the interior and main cover art missions. Clem Robbins handles the letter.
Debuting this fall, Captain Henry and The Grownyard of Time spend four issues and positive time as potentially greater threats than monsters as the protagonist discovers a brand new dimension. Here’s the complete overview:
On a dark night in England in the 1880s, together with Edward Gray, the adventurous Whiteia family is about to send a man into the realm between reality and further realms in order to free the trapped spirit of his amazing uncle. However, his expedition into space and time takes him to place beyond the knowledge of the witch. Captain Henry and Time Cemetery follow the brave time travel explorer on a journey to a new dimension. He soon discovers that the monsters he meets are not his only problem. Because time itself may represent the ultimate danger.
In addition to Zick’s main cover art, Captain Henry will feature variant covers by Mignola, Troy Nixey, Ben Stenbeck and Michael Wm Kaluta. See the cover of Zick and Mignola for issue #1 below.

“I loved building a new world, as a Disney and Pixar concept artist or as a creator of Dark Horse comics,” says Zick. “And now I can design crazy fantastical reality based on the fearless imagination of Mike Mignola and his Hellboy world. Mike is a purely genius storyteller, and when he pitched this new story to me, I felt that I needed to use everything I had learned throughout my entire career to live as something we’ve never seen before.
“Following Captain Henry and his new time traveler sidekicks, it begins in Victorian England and, finally, towards a retro/techno/dimension descending into the realm of monsters, ghosts and nightmares of horrifying times.
Mignola said, “This is an idea that’s been bumping into the back of my head for a very long time. I’m not a science fiction guy. Of course, it’s Victorian science fiction that tampers with the powers that don’t understand a bubble helmet diving suit made of leather rivets.
“Captain Henry is a soldier and Fortune Hunter in the grand tradition of heroic and mythical figures, and if you look closely you may find him familiar in a surprisingly unexpected way,” adds Zick. “One of the really fun parts of building this world was exploring new myths for time travel, from the origins of science to fearless adventurers and their amazing time machines.”
Captain Henry and Time #1 Cemetery will be available on October 22nd at digital and local comic shops.
