Skybound and Image Comic, in partnership with Scott Dunbier’s Act 4 Publishing, today released a preview of the art for Mike Mignola’s Hellboy in Hell Book 2 Artist’s Edition. This oversized hardcover book, displaying Mignola’s unforgettable works in their original 11″ x 17″ artboard size, will be available in stores this spring.
Mignola is the acclaimed creator of Hellboy and one of the most famous comic book creators of our time. Before Mignola’s explosion of creator-owned work, his career was already established with great work on DC and Marvel characters, including the acclaimed DC event series “Cosmic Odyssey.” Hellboy immediately struck a chord with fans upon its debut, and has remained in more or less continuous publication for over 30 years ever since.
“I have been fortunate to know and sometimes work with Mike Mignola for decades,” Dunbier said in a press release. “His beautiful art, incredible power of contrast, and epic storytelling ability continue to captivate everything he does. If ever there was a Ted Talk in print, this book is it.”
Weighing in at over 180 pages, the artist’s edition includes the final five issues of Hellboy in Hell, the series that temporarily brought the character’s long-running story to a close. In addition, the covers and illustrations of the series are published in their original condition. Introduction by Kevin Nowlan, renowned cartoonist and designer of the original Hellboy logo. An afterword by veteran comics and animation artist Steve Purcell provides personal insight into Hellboy’s legacy.
Artist editions are the gold standard in comic book art presentation and function effectively as artbooks that tell a story. Although the book is published in black and white, the art is scanned in color so readers can see the work as it appears in reality, with ink gradations, blue pencil, and all the unique nuances that make the original art special. Published in original board size.
Mike Mignola’s Hellboy in Hell Book 2 Artist Edition is the latest chapter in the partnership between Act 4 Publishing and Skybound, which includes releases from late 2025 (Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist Edition) through 2026 (Also includes Steve Ditko’s The Amazing Spider-Man Artist Edition, Darwyn Cooke’s Complete Spirit Connoisseur Edition, George Perez’s New Teen Titans Artist Edition and Wally Wood’s EC Story Artist Edition – Expanded Edition).
Mike Mignola’s Hellboy in Hell Book 2 Artist Edition (978-1-5343-3284-3 | MSRP $150.00) will be available at comic bookstores on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, and in other bookstores on Tuesday, March 25, 2026.
