Details can be found in the official press release below.
Under the guidance of a fresh editorial team of Frank Forte, Dave Kelly and Chris Thompson, who hope to return the magazine to its former glory, Heavy Metal, who have been buzzing at the news of its impending return, are proud and release the first wave. These are some of the creator announcements as part of the Kickstarter campaign launched today. Showcasing a captivating blend of new talent and classic favorites, this lineup is sure to make heavy metal heavy again!
Enki Bilal, one of the legends of the magazine’s original line-up (who first graced the title with Exterminator 17 in 1978), returns with the English version of his acclaimed BUG series. He joined the European front with Antonio Segura and José Ortiz’s previously unreleased outrageous Burton & Cyb, and Vicente Segreles’ lost classic The Mercenary. And in the spirit of introducing American audiences to the freshest European talent, the team is pleased to present the English-language debut of Janevski’s cult sci-fi heroine Sixela.
Fans of the 1981 animated film need not despair. Heavy Metal harnesses the power of its own rich set of characters, including Tarna, the ultimate Tarakian warrior. Her new adventures will pay homage to that early cinematic look while developing a rich new canon for modern science fiction audiences. Writing duo Leah Moore and John Repion write Tana’s ongoing adventures, along with stunning art from rising star Anna Morozova, who brings exciting new techniques and influences to the table. The magazine will also feature special one-shots of “Cold Dead War” by Craig Wilson, “Grimaldi” by Keron Grant, and “Legends of Tana” by Joseph Michael Linsner.
Bridging the gap between European and American readers is DC Comics superstar Fernando Dagnino, who brings a new series of cyberpunk short stories to the magazine, starting with Lester, That Old Feeling. Dagnino’s sci-fi brilliance was most recently seen within the pages of Titan Comics’ Blade Runner, and these new stories represent a major advancement in his futuristic storytelling abilities. In addition to these European classics and famous heavy metal characters, the first issue features the return of classic strips such as Paul Kirchner’s The Bus and John Workman’s June 2050 I will.
The magazine will also debut a number of new characters and worlds within its quarterly pages, starting with a top-secret new story by acclaimed author Michael Conrad that will unfold during the magazine’s run. There’s also Transcendestiny, an all-new series from visionary creators David Quinn and Tim Vigil that’s sure to rock readers’ worlds. These are just some of the new projects and celebrities that will be joining this legendary publication in its first issue. Stay tuned for future announcements and updates during the campaign.
This covers just about everything except for the covers, which feature comics and illustration talent, representing the wide range of styles and influences that the magazine is known for. In addition to Greg Hildebrandt, who graced the much-missed first issue’s gorgeous cover, there are many new covers and variations from creators like Frank Frazetta, Dan Brereton, Luca Strati, Skinner, Brian, and more. I will. Many of them are exclusive to Kickstarter campaigns. Viveros, Dan Quintana, Nikos, etc.
The Kickstarter campaign starts on Monday, November 25th and will run until Christmas. Backing this magazine is the perfect holiday gift for yourself or a loved one, with a variety of tiers and rewards to suit every taste and budget. More campaign details and the future of heavy metal will be revealed over the next month, so don’t miss out and join our Kickstarter campaign today!
