Comixology Originals Series Groupies ends with issue #5 currently available. To turn off the series this fall before the trade paperback release from Mudcave Studios, author Helen Murane has compiled a playlist of the series with additional commentary. Read the preview of Mullane Picks and Groupies #5.

Playlist: “Heavy Psych” by Hellen Mullane

In the groupie world, music is everything. Girls are not passive and idle music consumers. They are girls who know what’s hot. And what they think is hot is largely hot. They are taste makers.

1. “Baby, I’m going to leave you,” Led Zeppelin

Without the ultimate groupie-loving band, the Groupies playlist will not be complete. The Led Zeppelin exploit is notorious. Their rising fame was stratospheric, and their electric live performances captivated some of the most beautiful women in the world. They were rumoured to have dabbled in dark art for a long time. Jimmy Page even bought the old house of “the most evil man in the world” Aleister Crowley!

2. “Time is by my side” Irma Thomas

There are many artists who have been able to shoot this slot. It was shortened (to put it gently) by bands, labels and presses from the classic rock era, including Valentinos, Big Mama Thornton, Big Mabel, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters. If appropriate, the Zeppelinclacic above is actually Umbredon, a folk singer from the 50s. With a modern eye, it is impossible to overlook the much less wealth-producing labor that black artists spent creating rock and roll, and the forgotten woman who wrote some of the great classics of the genre.

3. “Cosmic Blues” by Janis Joplin

One of the most epic vocalists of this era and other eras, Janis Joplin, stood by icons like Grace Slick and Karen Carpenter, as if the woman was making it, without compromising on scenes where this man ruled. Her success was dizzy, but she was ultimately lonely. In the end, for her, the price of fame was very high.

4. “I want to change the world” 10 years from now

The central question of Groupie is, why are some bands reaching the fame of Led Zeppelin or Rolling Stone, while others incredibly talented never becoming legendary? A band like ten years later was successful in their own time, but not on an iconic level.

5. “Foxy Lady” by Jimi Hendrix

One of the ultimate groupie scores, Jimi Hendrix was known to love girls and groupies. Like other stars like Kris Christofferson, he had a groovy reputation among them. He has a famous run-in with the plaster caster, Chicago group, taking the pop star penis mold and creating plaster of Paris sculptures. Hendrix’s model was known to be Cynthia Plaster caster’s most beloved sculpture.

6. “I’m in love with oooo-oo man.”

GTO’s (Girls Togethereally) GTO’s The GTO’s (Girls Togethere) was a project led by Frank Zappa in the late ’60s. It consisted of seven of the most famous LA groups of the time, including Pamela de Barrez and Miss Mercy. This song about Nick St Nicholas by Steppenwolf shows the humor and character that the girls brought to the scene. Their collective, free spirit believes in the idea that groupie scenes do not depend on female friendships and connections.
