Google’s A-series Pixel phones are a great choice for anyone looking to upgrade an older device without worrying about their budget. Now’s a particularly good time to buy the Google Pixel 8a, as it’s on sale just before Prime Day. The Android phone has been slashed by $100 to just $399, making it a new record low price.
The Pixel 8a is our pick as the best mid-range smartphone you can buy right now; we gave it a score of 90 in our review back in May. It has great hardware for a phone at this price point, with a great camera, a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and great battery life (lasting 20.5 hours in our video playback test).
The Google Pixel 8a is now at its cheapest price ever ahead of Prime Day in October.

Additionally, the Pixel 8a runs on the same chipset, Tensor G3, as the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, so it can run the same AI features as the flagship device, like Magic Eraser and other camera tricks, Google Assistant summarizing and narrating web articles, wallpaper generation, and faster Face Unlock.
Other features like IP67 dust and water resistance are much appreciated. On the downside, the bezels are a little thicker than some people would like, and the Qi wireless charging is slow at 7.5W.However, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent mid-range smartphone.
