Godzilla is wreaking havoc on the Marvel Comics universe this year, and in that sense, there’s nothing quite as mean and eco-friendly as Godzilla vs. Godzilla. Hulk’s upcoming showdown. As confirmed by Studio Toho’s Godzilla Instagram page and first reported yesterday by comicbook.com’s Evan Valentine, the series by Gerry Duggan and artist Giuseppe Camuncoli will be significantly larger than life. I can see it. It will arrive in the stands on April 16th.
“I grew up loving the Godzilla movies and Marvel Comics, and it’s a thrill to work with Giuseppe Camuncoli on the craziest comic I’ve ever been a part of. I love Deadpool and Marvel Comics. “I once wrote a comic where Conan killed a zombie with a call girl’s foot,” Duggan said. “I’m not going to say who would win, Hulk or Godzilla, but either way, the fans were excited.”
“When I got this offer from Marvel, I was very excited,” Camuncoli said. “We felt it was pretty cool to portray this giant, but the real challenge was making the iconic ’70s version look scarier and more dangerous. Thanks to Gerry Duggan’s great script, it was a no-brainer. I knew this was going to be a lot of fun because I had to illustrate so many crazy scenes. Human characters and forces coming face to face for the first time…I couldn’t resist drawing it!”
According to Marvel, the official call for stories is:
“General Ross has no tolerance for monsters in any form. Along with his anti-monster force, the Thunderbolts, he takes on the biggest and deadliest monsters on Earth, including Finn van Foom, Mothra, Kumonga, and even the Hulk. They have been defeated and imprisoned. All that remains is his greatest hunt, Godzilla. But the Thunderbolts’ efforts to bring the last monster to its knees may result in the most destructive battle royale to ever shake the earth. No. It’s time to find out who is truly the strongest!”
Why this happened: Marvel announced earlier this year that it would feature a series of Godzilla comic battles in its comic line. In March, the King of Monsters fights the Fantastic Four. Hulk will appear in mid-April, and Spider-Man will appear in late April to early May.
From all the competition we’ve heard so far, this one feels pretty bright. People really love Godzilla.
