This September, the Curse of Shirley Johnson #3 will offer a historic moment for the spawn universe with two brand new covers by comic icon Frank Miller, including a highly anticipated team-up with spawn creator Todd McFarlane.
The issue features Miller’s latest variant, his first spawn cover in 25 years, showing off pencils and inks by Miller in the colours of Alex Sinclair. But the real highlight is the 1:25 black and white incentive edition. Miller’s Pencils was reconsidered by McFarlane himself. The first time we will share cover duties since Wizard Magazine #32 in 1994 marks the first collaboration in the world of Spawn.
MacFarlane reflected the reunion:
“It’s always fun to work with friends. Working with Frank Miller is even better. His influence on the comics is undeniable, and being able to work together again in decades feels like a whimsical kid everywhere.”
Mirrors added:
“Todd and I started cartoons for the same reason. The joy of making them. Sometimes we can do it together.
Alongside the Miller and MacFarlane milestone cover, the issue also includes variations from the core creative teams of Daniel Henriquez and Jonathan Grapion.
Henriques called the collaboration “dreams come true,” and Glapion added that it was “honor and thrill” to lend both Miller and McFarlane to the series.
As for the story, issue 3 discovers that Shirley and the stranger survived the latest challenge, but with great results. The nearby camp suggests a shelter, but the heavens descend and ancient troops stir as Beliaphon is in his movement.
The Curse of Sherlee Johnson #3 hit the comic shop on September 17th, and with the cut-off of the final order on August 25th, this issue is available in multiple covers.
