Square Enix’s multiplayer shooter Foamstars is moving to a free-to-play model. The four-player team multiplayer brawler officially became a free game on Sony’s PlayStation 4 and 5 today, according to a post on the studio’s support page. That means you won’t even need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play.
If you purchase the game before Square Enix’s price change, the studio will send you a free “Legacy Gift” that includes a Bubble Beastie skin in 12 exclusive color variations, an exclusive slide board design, and a “Legacy” title. To find out how to get free “Legacy Gifts”, you should always keep an eye on the game’s official website and your X account.
Foamstars was released earlier this year as a third-person multiplayer battle game on Sony’s past and current generation consoles. It’s basically a combination of Fortnite’s base-building mechanics and Nintendo’s family-friendly multiplayer shooter Splatoon. Teams use piles of foam to build terrain for archers to move at high speeds, or to build higher vantage points to attack enemies. You shouldn’t learn the backstory of the game or where the pile of bubbles comes from, at least not anymore while you’re eating. Trust us on this one.
