There is always a denying person ready to dismiss something simply to gatekeep and enhance their preferences, and superhero comics are often their favorite targets. Fate 2099 #1 is not an introspective indie comic that strives for a layer of hidden meaning and does not pretend to pretend. Instead, it embraces exactly what it is: a bold, bold sci-fi superhero smash hero saga enjoys the sights while carving out its own space in Marvel’s futuristic landscapes. Simply put, it’s fun.
Doomed 2099 #1 is one world under Doom’s tie-in. This is primarily a fighting comic with the clever cliffhanger. It’s captivated by the incredible art and fight scenes featuring various characters from 2099, but also serves as a stakes learning chapter for a months-long Marvel event. So the issue houses stories that feel fun and important.
The problem begins with Doctor Doom listing all the enemies of his rule on Earth. But what he doesn’t explain is Doom 2099. This leads to a battle featuring Doom 2099, Deathlok, Old Man Logan, Bishop, Maestro, Phoenix, and Cosmic Ghost Rider. Fire and laser magic and explosions are not slightly damaged due to the Magician’s highest title.

This leads to several backstory in which Doom 2099 is involved, as writer Frank Thierry effectively sets the issue as a last chance to stop Doom. The fight is intense and fun, and Logan-like moments are sought for a maestro fastball special.
The fight is intense thanks to the art of Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar, and the colours of Andrew Dalhaus. On the last few pages, we get a glimpse into what it is for.
2099 and his future location aren’t much of a factor, so fans of the 2099 space may feel a bit underestimated. There is even bullying of Doom 2099 and 2099 characters facing Doctor Doom, but that fight takes place off the page. This is about one final battle and cliffhanger that raises stakes. Ultimately, the events in this issue do not affect the main universe or one world under destiny, but at least it is a fun bond.
Fateful 2099 #1 is not trying to reinvent a superhero comic. It is fast, fun, and creates flashy bonds, thriving with high octane action and killer cliffhangers. While it may not satisfy readers looking for a deep dive into the world of Doom 2099, it has been a successful, entertaining chapter in Marvel’s latest event.
