Skybound is a four-issue mini-work on Universal Monsters by Eisner Award winner and New York Times bestselling comic book creator Faith Erin Hicks (Pumpkinheads, City Without a Name trilogy). “The Mummy” also continues to feature unexpected casting. It is part of an ongoing partnership with Universal Products & Experiences and will be released in March.

Hicks is co-starring colorist Lee Lockridge (Standstill ). 1999 Brendan Fraser version.

“What I enjoy most about ‘The Mummy’ is the romance underlying all the horror. A mortal man rebels against an ancient god to bring his dead lover back to life, and pays the ultimate price.” , transformed thousands of years later into a walking ghost of death. The Mummy is essentially a tragic figure driven by his own pain and loss, his understandable human emotions distorted into acts. ,” Hicks said in a statement. “I was so excited to tell this story from the perspective of Helen, the modern incarnation of The Mummy’s deceased love, and to depict her growing awareness of the heartbreaking horrors that lurk in the shadows of early 20th century Egypt.” I hope fans of all versions of ‘Hamunaptra’ enjoy my take on this romantic and horrifying (or horribly romantic) story.”

Helen Grosvenor is a woman born into two worlds, belonging to neither, and forever haunted by a cursed encounter in her childhood. When an unknown voice takes her back to an ancient Egyptian excavation site, Helen unwittingly finds herself playing an unexpected role in the rise of the monster known only as…the Mummy!

Previous collaborations between Skybound and Universal include James Tynion IV and Martin Simmons’ Dracula (Simmons was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior Art)). Lamb V, Dan Watters, Matthew Roberts’ The Creature from the Black Lagoon Alive! and Michael Walsh’s Frankenstein.

Of course, no comic book horror story can come without a full sequel of various covers. And we got them… and a sneak peek.
