ThunderCats’ new character Apex was first introduced in September, but fans will have a chance to learn more about them in an upcoming special. Dynamite revealed that the new special, called ThunderCats Apex Special, written by Ed Brisson and illustrated by Rapha Lobosco, will include “key details” about their identities that readers won’t want to miss.
Check out the five covers below, from the talented minds at the helm of the flagship series: Declan Shalvey, Lucio Parrillo, Meghan Hetrick, Jay Lee, and interior artist Lobosco.
The cloaked Apex first appears in ThunderCats #8 and is described as having a single glowing red eye. Anyone who tries to ambush him will regret it. One day, Apex arrives at a local tavern with a mission to accomplish. What his mission is and who his target is are a mystery to everyone but him.
Brisson recalled the Thundercats being a staple of his childhood. “We hope to surprise readers with this approach while remaining faithful to the original series.”
Although Apex is a new character, editor Nate Cosby says he’s been around for a while. “He’s going to stay here,” Cosby said. “In the ThunderCats Apex Special, Ed and Rafa will show you who he is, what he wants, and how that will impact the TCats for years to come.”
ThunderCats: Apex contains 28 pages and is scheduled to be released sometime in December 2024.
