Vault Comics has announced plans to adapt the hit Western Dead Acre as a graphic novel. Writer Karen Van and artist Riley Brown lead the project. This is based on the hit, strange western novels of Lett Bruno and Jaime Castle of the same name.

Find out more about Vault here:

Dead Acre, the first volume in the acclaimed and award-winning Black Badge series, tells the story of James Crowley. James Crowley was an outlaw who met at his fatal end in a gunfight, and now finds himself in purgatory and serves the White Throne so that he doesn’t fall into hell. Not undead at all, but not alive, the best thing he can hope for is to remove his slavery and disappear. His lesser obligation as God’s hand? Use his new abilities to hunt down the demonic presence that has permeated the deadly realm.

The graphic novel is written by acclaimed author Karen Vann (Hello County, The Six Gun, the last book you’ve ever read), and by Riley Brown, by Farez Meise and written world design.

“I’m not familiar with supernatural Westerners. I’m a huge fan of the genre, and the supernatural Westerners rooted in prose really solidified my fandom. So working on stories like this was a lot of fun for me,” Bunn said. “James Crowley is a character with a wealth of potential, as a kind of mercy, as a firefighter, and as a kind of mercy. There’s no end to the story that can be harvested from his adventures.”

“Nothing is more visual and visceral than a good Westerner,” said Bruno, co-creator of Black Badge. “A little bit of magic can add and what can beat it? Seeing a black badge in comic form has been a dream ever since we came up with this idea.”

“Working with industry heroes like Karen and Riley literally made my dream come true,” said Castle, co-creator of Black Badge. “This is the best Western comic ever made. Like Strike Oil.”

The full-color graphic novel Dead Acre will be available on September 16th and can now be pre-ordered. Meanwhile, the Black Badge Novel e-book is available from Aethon Books. An edition of the print and audiobooks narrated by RogerClark is available from Blackstone.
