Two influential creators team up across time and space! Artist Tetsuo Hara, best known for his monumental Fist of the North Star, adapted the historical novel written by Keiichiro Ryu with Mio Aso. 1. Kodansha will publish a hardcover English version of the book in December, and The Beat has an exclusive preview today.
The series is based on the real life of Sengoku period military commander Maeda Masumi, also known as Keiji Nada. The film is also about the famous kabukimono, a gang formed by samurai who ignored the formal dress codes of the time and adopted non-traditional clothing and weapons from Japan and other countries. They certainly seem like great companions!
The official synopsis is as follows:
Tall, handsome, and terrifying, Cage enjoys killing men on the battlefield, carousing with courtesans in red-light districts, and feasting on his own tastes of beauty. But staying true to yourself while living in an era of powerful and ruthless politics is no easy task.
As the feudal lords fight for supremacy, the Keiji family prepares for a clash with the powerful Hojo family. When a scouting team is sent to procure wild horses for the House army, they are attacked by a creature they have never seen before. Tasked with defeating the beast, Cage sets out to tame it instead. But when Hojo and his ninja master find out about this expedition, Keiji will have more than the beast on his hands…
