When the Sentinel robot attacks the children, Bronze jumps and jumps into action, protecting young Kitty Pride and her teammates from harm. In response to the Sentinel robot being charged for her, the young kitten instinctively protects herself and uses her mutant abilities for the first time. This is a monumental moment in Kitty’s life, contradicting the standard initial use of Kitty’s facing ability seen in the original run of the creepy X-Men. This is a small change into the history of Kitty’s character, but it has not been addressed in this issue.
During the matter, Bronze meets an adult Kitty sitting alone on a swing set. Bronze recalls Kitty expressing regret about her life as X-Man, and if given the chance she will start over her life again and cancel her time with the X-Men. In the tense discussion that took place in the exceptional X-Men #11, Kitty speaks very openly about how she views her time as a member of the X-Men, telling Bobby Drake, “When we were their age, it was a bad thing! That wasn’t a mistake! Bronze tells Kitty that she has come back to the past and that she has an opportunity to change her past and future by preventing her younger self from joining Charles Xavier and his school at mutant school. Much of her feelings of regret may be attributed to Kitty being forced to kill Orchis Goon after the Hellfire Gala massacre (see X-Men #25 for more information).
Ultimately, Kitty decides not to rewrite her past, but to change her history, and instead chooses to accept the life she has, and both the good and evil that comes with it. In this issue, Kitty recognizes that she has a life that remains unchanged for the world, especially when it means giving up on the friendship and adventures that have been created with the X-Men. The exceptional X-Men #13 is a key turning point for Kitty in the “from the Ashes” era. For the first time, Kitty coincides with what he experienced in the fall of Krakoa.
Overall, the exceptional X-Men #13 has now coincided with the traumatic events that Kitty Pryde, one of the most central characters in X-Men’s publishing history, which had a major impact on her and her outlook for life. This issue culminates in Kitty Pride accepts every aspect of life as X-Man and realizes that she has to do bad things to good in order to appreciate her time with the X-Men. Resolving this problem is important. Because Kitty ultimately places her past behind her and gives her the opportunity to rest her feelings of regret in order to fully embrace what her future has for her.
