Everything announced at the Xbox Developer Direct Showcase

Xbox held a Developer Direct Showcase today, detailing its progress on three known games and one all-new title: Ninjagaiden 4. If you weren’t able to watch it, here’s what you missed.

Ninja Gaiden 4

Ninjagaiden 4 is co-developed by Team Ninja and Platinum Games, best known for the Bayonetta series. The trailer introduces a new protagonist, Yakumo, and Team Ninja is touting the game as a “true successor” to Ninja Gaiden 3 after the failure of the Ninja Gaiden Z spin-off. It certainly seems like a perfect cross between classic Ninjagaiden and Platinum Games action. It will be released this fall on PC, PS5, and Xbox, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

south of midnight

Next up for Ninjagaiden was South of Midnight, the next game from Compulsion Games, who previously made We Happy Few. South of Midnight has been in the works for a long time, and the studio has done a good job of communicating its progress, especially in recent months. So, aside from the release date of April 8, 2025, there wasn’t a whole lot of new information here. )

Claire Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been on our radar for a while, and it still looks great. This is the debut game from French studio Sandfall Interactive. Inspired by the Golden Age of France in the late 19th century, Clair Obscur is a fantasy adventure that seems to draw heavily from the world of JRPGs. Even the music at the beginning of the Sandfall segment sounded like the Velvet Room from the Persona series. Again, the big news is the release date – April 24th. It will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox consoles, and will be available to play on Game Pass from day one.

Doom: Dark Ages

We knew it was coming, but an in-depth look at id Software’s Doom: The Dark Ages certainly stole the show on Engadget. It’s being touted as the biggest Doom game ever, with more focus than any other entry in the series, perhaps outside of the original Doom. The Dark Ages is a tanky adventure through medieval space hell. Starring an incredibly tough Slayer with three basic inputs: shield saw, melee, and gun. Doom: The Dark Ages is scheduled for release on May 15th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S (including Game Pass).

That was it. It’s been a pretty great start to 2025 for Xbox. However, the eagle-eyed may have noticed that all but South of Midnight are coming to Sony’s PlayStation as well as Microsoft’s consoles and PC. You can relive the full showcase below.

Or…if you don’t have time, Microsoft has put together a 72 second summary for some reason.
