Wealth is everywhere; you just need to know where to look. The fabulously wealthy Scrooge McDuck is Duckburg’s most famous resident, but his fortune is not limited to the infamous safehouse where he likes to swim. To young Huey, Dewey and Louie, their “Grandma”‘s inexhaustible well of stories is more valuable than any gold. And with him, they’re constantly making new memories and stories. In this new comic series, the three learn that the most important legacy they can inherit from Scrooge is his lifelong wisdom.
“For months, I’ve been working with a bunch of new collaborators to craft some great DuckTales material… but now that this is breaking news, I can’t help but think back to 35 years ago,” says writer Brandon Montclair. “As a kid, I watched DuckTales on TV, along with a bunch of other cartoons, action movies, heaps of action figures, and heaps of comic books. I had aspirations of being in the comics industry when I grew up. As that dream became a reality and my talent for storytelling grew, I grew to appreciate the intergenerational influence that began with Carl Barks’ Uncle Scrooge comics and continued through so many creative giants. So our new comic is timeless and appropriate for all ages, providing nostalgia for readers who’ve enjoyed these characters for decades and inspiration for new readers, because at its heart, DuckTales is about adventure. Anyone can get outside, open a book, and discover priceless treasures.”
The opening story arc of the series focuses primarily on the “core four” of DuckTales and is set in Duckburg as they discover the town’s secrets and hidden treasures. Montclair’s storytelling is also interspersed with flashbacks to Scrooge’s past adventures on the Mysterious Island and other exotic locations with friends and foes such as Launchpad, Glomgold, Webby, Gyro Gearloose, Magica de Spell, and the Beagle Boys.
Montclair’s ambitious story is matched by the vibrant artwork of Tommaso Ronda. Disney comics, especially those starring Ducks, are known for featuring work from a variety of creators from around the world. Ronda hails from Italy, a country home to many acclaimed Disney artists who continue to draw these characters. The creative team is rounded out by letterer Fabio Amelia, with editor Nathan Cosby rounding out the Ducks.
DuckTales #1 will be released on November 6, 2024 as a special gift to fans ahead of the holiday season, featuring a host of gorgeous covers by Ivan Vigarella, Francesco Tomaselli, Carlo Sid Lauro, Alan Cua, and more, plus classic artwork from the Disney vault will be offered as a special variant cover.
The inhabitants of All-New Adventures in Duckburg largely follow in the footsteps of the incredible original show DuckTales, which aired from 1987 to 1990 and made an impression on a generation of kids around the world, continuing to inspire future generations through reruns and reboots. The show draws heavily on the long history of Disney ducks depicted in cartoons and books dating back 90 years, with legendary characters like Carl Barks and Don Rosa inevitably influencing Montclair and team’s approach.
Editor Nate Cosby added, “What makes DuckTales unique is that it contains two stories in one comic book, as Huey, Dewey and Louie embark on their first ever adventure, while the world-famous Scrooge McDuck continues his treasure hunt after his epic lifelong expedition. Brandon and Tommaso have created a fantastic story that is sure to delight fans of the original animated series and Carl Barks and Don Rosa’s classic comic books.”
DUCKTALES #1 will be featured in Diamond Comic Distributors’ September 2024 Preview catalog, the first issue of merchandise for the comics specialty market, and is scheduled to be available in November 2024. Comic book fans are encouraged to pre-order the book at their local comic book retailer, and it will also be available for purchase by individual customers through digital platforms including Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital and ComicsPlus.
