This new era of ThunderCats comics continues to bring excitement to fans old and new, and to celebrate the incredible support from our readers and fanbase, Dynamite is pleased to announce the debut of a new character, Apex, in September’s ThunderCats #8.
The series was a massive hit, selling a record 170,000 copies of the first issue alone. It eventually topped 200,000 copies across multiple printings, breaking records in Dynamite’s 20-year publishing history. Now, we’re on the cusp of issue 6, where new stories will begin and fans will join the Thundercats craze in a new phase.
Throughout the series, writer Declan Shalvey and artist Drew Moss have not disappointed fans with new portrayals of fan-favorite characters. Chapter 2 introduced an all-new member of “The Cats” named Calica, and the following issue saw the debut of Snarf. Each release adds another layer to the evolving storyline, with an even bigger reveal in issue 8.
Dynamite said:
ThunderCats #8 is set to hit shelves on September 25th and will introduce a mysterious figure known to fans as “Apex.” Fans may recognize certain visual elements of the character, designed by series writer and artist Declan Shalvey, but his true identity will only be revealed in the pages following #8.
Shalvy had a lot to say.
The challenge of reintroducing the ThunderCats in this new series was a daunting task, but I couldn’t be happier with what Drew Moss and I accomplished with this book.
With much of the new status quo established in “The Omens,” we are now in the process of building our own Thundercats lore, and with that comes the introduction of the mysterious Apex. This character will bring a whole new set of problems to the Thundercats, especially after we learn their true identities. I’m really happy to have been able to design this character as well, following on from the designs Drew established previously.
