Everyone’s favorite, Drawn & Quarterly, an independent Montreal-based comic publisher, appeared at Moccafest 2025 with a stunning new release and an exciting signature.

D&Q has taken advantage of this year’s Moccafest to debut several new books ahead of the official release date. Guideri Sle’s Muybridge, which hit the retailer on April 29, was prominently displayed on the edge of the table, but according to D&Q staff, the real highlight was Katie Fricas: A colorful tale about a lesbian library worker in New York City who struggles to finish off her epic graphic novel. Check-out will not arrive in stores until May 20th, but the New York setting and lively original art make it perfect for your Moccafest debut. The strange cartoonist, illustrator, editor and library worker Fricas had signed copies on Saturday from 12-1:30. Check out is her first graphic novel.

In addition to Flicus, other depicted quarterly artists who will sign the book on Saturday included Edward Steed, Adrian Tomeen, Michael Defoge and Maria Medem. In addition to participating in two panels, Deforge and Medem signed the sign on Sunday. Defoe discussed the subject “between the Two Worlds” and Anders Nilsen, while Maria Medom spoke with Brian Bromers about “the emotions of the composition of color.” Deforge’s latest book, Holy Lacrimony, is “Arien Aidation Trauma Memoirs” about grief, performance, and performance grief released on Tuesday, March 11th.

On Saturday, Adrian Tomeen discussed the artistic evolution of Charles Burns and Jaime Hernandez in a panel that highlighted early work and influence. “I feel like I’m putting in a lot of effort to get things that other people can do easily,” Tomeen said of his own work.

Other new books, represented by The Drawn & Quarterly table, include Milk White Horse by Micker Kennedy, Walter Scott’s Wendy series, a new edition of The Moomin Comics by Tove Jansson, and English translations of the mid-century manga masterpieces by Yoshiharu Tsuge and Yamada Murasaki.

As always, Drawn & Quarterly made a huge presence at Moccafest 2025, bringing in beautiful books and talented cartoonists.
