Do you know what EMF stands for? Prizes go to the first person who thinks of “Epsom Mad Funkers,” but believe it or not, that’s not what we’re talking about here. EMF also stands for Electromagnetic Field, which is the technology used in a new musical instrument called the Demon Box.
Launched on Kickstarter by startup Eternal Research, the product has already well surpassed its $9,997 goal: with just 29 days left at the time of writing, 111 backers have pledged more than $54,000 to get their hands on one of the first units shipping next year.
“By harnessing electromagnetic fields (EMFs), this revolutionary analogue instrument unlocks the existing music hidden in everyday objects and experiences, transforming anything from a hairdryer to a cell phone into music,” it promises. “With the Demon Box, you can create unique sounds using any object that emits electromagnetic waves…”
Apparently microwaves, neon signs, old video game consoles, and power tools are also potential sources.
