DC X Sonic The Hedgehog #5 Review

DC X Sonic The Hedgehog was a huge joy to read mainly how Team Sonic and Justice League interact with each other’s worlds (and because the DC-inspired makeover was received by Sonic and his friends), but all the good things have to come to an end.

The biggest part of this issue is especially seeing both teams reunite first. Whether Silver and John Stewart are discussing the Green Lantern Corps, and whether Gargardner is at best a taste that they acquired, or whether Batman and Shadow are doing their best to do their best, Ian Flynn writes these meetups in style, making them as fun as their inevitable battle with Darkseid.

That battle is as epic as you think, thanks to Adam Bryce Thomas. Thomas drew pretty epic images, including Team Sonic and Justice League charging into battle.

DC

But the real standout is the moments of Sonic and Flash. Thomas runs through the duo at high speed through Lanarock, using their respective powers to ultimately defeat him. It’s a joy to witness, especially in the way movement is portrayed. From start to finish, when they race to save the world, you actually feel like you’re together with Flash and Sonic.

Finally, Matt Harms’ colours pop all pages. Laguna Rock lives up to its name, with shadows and dark red looking like hell. Justice League and team Sonic counter this with the bright colors they adorned, offering a variety of shades based on their uniforms and their respective powers. But at the forefront there are red and yellow on the frontline, thanks to Flash and Sonic (especially when Sonic uses chaos emeralds to enter his golden supersonic form).

Things get tied to a relatively neat bow, and bullying potential sequels on the final page. DC X Sonic The Hedgehog #5 finishes this crossover with a high note, packing a page full of all the expected action and team dynamics. Sonic says it best: “We had a great adventure, met some amazing people, and got well on the other side.” What more do you want in the crossover?

Flynn writes some great character moments between Justice League and Team Sonic.

Thomas goes all out for this final issue, and each page is full of action.

Matt Harms’ coloured works switch between heroic and apocalyptic.

Another crossover bullying I need to see.

It’s wrapped a little too well.
