In the final issue of DC X Sonic The Hedgehog, readers witnessed what happened when Sonic and his friends had to fill out the Justice League. Currently, DC X Sonic The Hedgehog #4 takes the opposite approach, showing what the Justice League was doing after Darkseid stopped exploiting the power of Chaos Emeralds. Now stuck in another world, Primetime super teams are fighting the rest of the Darkseid army. Not to mention Sonic’s other enemies, there is no blue blur.
Like DC X Sonic The Hedgehog #3, this issue consists of a series of vignettes in which each member of the Justice League assumes a different threat. But part of the fun of that issue was to showcase Team Sonic unite alongside the other DC heroes to a new DC-inspired redesign and how to handle the DC villains. Here, the battle between the League and Sonic villains is hardly big for a while, as most of the battle with the Darkseid army takes place. That makes sense as Lord Apokolips is the main threat driving the problem, but I wanted a little more “DC hero from Sonic’s World” especially as it is the best part of the problem.
A proper case: The first encounter is between Wonder Woman and the Cat’s Fire. DC X Sonic The Hedgehog #4 again plays the dynamics between the two. Ian Flynn does an amazing job writing the interaction between Wonder Woman and Fire. Sonic’s arch-foe Superman is accused of his battle with Dr. Robotnik, where he learns the difficult methods that Steel Man is used to fight crazy scientists. And don’t let Batman vs. Metal Sonic start!
DC
Ian Bryce Thomas and Matt Herms bring enough energy to the page, but even Sonic will have each sequence flowing into the next at the speed that it wants. Each of these sequences feels different thanks to the colours of Herms. The stainless steel interior of Robotnik’s metallic fortress is in stark contrast to the inky night, the highlight of the Batman vs. Metal Sonic sequence. Thomas really shines when he draws the Flash. The fastest man lives on him transforms into a blur of red and gold that is shattered throughout the page. That makes sense. After all, Flash, like Sonic, is a character built on speed. When Thomas becomes a rival, the flash sequence is with the Green Lantern.
DC x Sonic The Hedgehog #4 flips the script to reveal what Justice League was doing in the world of Sonic, bringing a solid runaway. Now that Team Sonic and the league have reunited, we hope to see more of the crossover elements that have fueled the first two issues.
